The West Clermont Opportunity: School District Engages the Community.
West Clermont takes to heart its mission: to ensure academic excellence for all students in a safe environment supported by parents and the community. To create smaller, personalized learning communities they launched their high school redesign in August 2002. Believed to be the first attempt by a suburban district to convert large high schools into smaller schools of interest, educators nationwide are watching, hoping to learn from West Clermont.
With numerous programs reflecting commitment to engaging learners in unique educational experiences, West Clermont wanted their Web site to further this goal and build a sense of "ownership" among students, parents, and the community.
The TELLUS Solution:
We created a new Web site, online brand identity, and interactive features to achieve district objectives. The new site serves as a portal for 12 district schools supporting a unified district identity as "a community of learners." "Adventures in learning" stories highlight unique learning experiences emphasizing community and achievement.
Participation is encouraged by a public discussion forum where parents, teachers, students, and community members can share ideas relating to reading, parent-student connection, and building character. Visitors can subscribe to email news updates and share their thoughts through a user survey. The site provides a wealth of useful information including homework help, approved reading lists, literacy links, grade level profiles, and parent resources.
